In the I Am Not a Target project, I photograph the spaces and places where children and guns intersect. These photographs are a combination of concept and portraits. The concept shots are the results of actual gun/children interaction based on real world events. The portraits are of my daughters. Whenever our lives intersect with guns, we stop and do a portrait.
Children are killed every day by guns left loaded and unsecured. This project shows the spaces and places where children and guns intersect. Congress has failed to pass common sense gun safety regulations. It is my hope that adults can at least be responsible for unloading and securing their guns. #askingsaveskids
On March 22, 2017 a teenager was shot in the arm at the Noel Wien Library in Fairbanks, Alaska while he was studying at his computer. The gunshot came from a handgun that discharged accidentally from somewhere in the library. The I Am Not a Target project is a work in progress that shows the spaces and places where children and guns intersect.
